California Burning (single)

by James Dean Cotton

/

about

The Camp Fire wildfire of 2018 devastated the California towns of Paradise, Magalia, Concow and several surrounding communities. This song was written in memory of the lives and homes lost, the bravery of the firefighters and front line personnel, and the survivors. Extreme wildfires have become the norm around the world, and demand attention.

lyrics

These angry winds are fallin'
Like a freight train from the sun
And these skeletons are callin'
Out to everyone

I would rise up from this heat
If I had somewhere to run

California burning

Well, I left her in Magalia
And I told her not to cry
Though we all gathered at the Camp Fire
We got lost in Paradise

I would rise up from this heat
If I had somewhere to run

California burning
California burning
California burning

Santa Ana, she has flown again
God only knows, off to where
Thinking maybe she’s gone home again
And love released into thin air

California burning (see her fly like nightbirds in the sky)
California burning (smoke in the night falling on your eyes)
California burning (embers rising to a sunset sky)
California burning
